5. Applications of pearlescent pigments

Pearlescent pigments contains several thin layer of metal oxides coated with mica. Changing the thin layer of metal oxide can generate different pearlescent effects. Compared with other pigments, pearlescent pigment has an incomparable effect with its unique soft pearl luster. The special surface structure, high refractive index and good transparency allow it to creat the same effect as the pearl luster in a transparent medium.

1. Plastic application

Pearlescent pigments can bring an attractive color visual effect on transparent and translucent plastic resins. Usually, the better the transparency of the resin, the more fully the unique luster and color effect of the pearlescent pigment can be displayed. Regarding less transparent resins (such as PC/PVC, etc.), due to their processing characteristics, the pearlescent luster and color can be fully displayed, too. Pearlescent pigments have a wide range of application in cosmetic containers, all kinds of packaging, toys, decorative materials, all kinds of film and other plastic products.

2. Cosmetic application

Broyal pearl pigment is made of natural mica, non-toxic and high temperature resistant. It is harmless to human body and does not hurt the skin and eyes, fully complying with the regulations of Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Diversified colors, easy color matching, the pearl pigment have a wide application in the production of lipstick, eyeshadow, foundation, liquid eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, nail polish, hair cream, moisturizer, spray and other different cosmetics.

3. Coating application

Pearlescent pigment has good dispersion and good physical and chemical properties, so it is widely used in coating industry. No matter what kind of monochrome paint mixed with pearlescent pigment, it can become pearlescent paint, and its pearlescent and metallic luster effect is impressive. Pearlescent coatings have a wide application in automobiles, locomotives, daily necessities, building materials and many other fields. Pearlescent pigments are flaky structures, it is simple and rapid to become wetting, but it is necessary to consider the polarity of the surface of its system and the chemical properties of the medium or solvent. Their chips are easily broken during dispersion. Normally, pearlescent pigments can be dispersed by simple stirring.  Mixing is only allowed for a short time if dispersing machinery is used. It is recommended to pre-dispense the paste before adding it to the paint.

4. Ink application

In printing inks, pearlescent pigments not only produce pearlescent effect while maintaining the original tone, but also bring a variety of metallic luster effects and iridescent luster effects. They have a wide range of application in the printing industry, commonly used in all kinds of wrapping paper, magazines, advertising paintings, textiles and other items of printing. They have excellent dispersion, and can be mixed into low-viscosity printing inks with only slight stirring. Since pearlescent pigment is layer structure, it can be mixed with ink only with slight stirring, avoiding strong mechanical treatment, so as not to break the surface of pearlescent powder.
